My gas gauge is doing the crazy bang-bang.
But the LCD display also shows wrong ("empty") gas tank info (tank is full).
Could I have both, a messed up gas gauge AND a bad tank sender unit?
I would like to measure the signal coming from the sender unit to the instrument cluster. What resistance or voltage should a measure at the tank unit connector?

I got a quote from an eBay er repairing my cluster for $199 to replace the LCD with a German display, replace temp/fuel stepping motors and calibrate. Would I be better off doing this myself as my LCD is all but toast and the fuel gauge reads 3/4 when empty?
Thanks

I had mine apart. Was the 'trace' (wire) on the circuit board broken (my needel goes bonkers slapping to left and right stop, so load, you can't hear the radio).
Thought I fixed, but came right back.
Found 2 cluster cheap, gave to a friend (one was great, just needed LCD, other had both dials hanging at 6 o'clock, not sure what is wrong). But he dropped the decent spare. Now making 2 out of one with new LCD.
have you ruled out that you gas level sender unit is not sending wrong signal to gas gauge? replacing the stepper motor will not fix that.

I talked to an Audi Mechanic abiotic the fuel gauge. The stepping motors that drive the pointers are what they suspect anytime a gauge reads 1/2 when empty or past full on full up. He laughed when I asked about a new Audi panel.

Call Tanin Auto Electric (Racine, WI) who can repair it reasonably or sell you the exact parts. Or Module Master in Moscow. No parts sales, only repair service. Moscow, Idaho, not Russia.
