Does anyone use the VAG tool with a Mac + virtual PC?

I'm pretty sure that it will NOT work. The serial driver that's...
...required to talk to VW's screwey data bus requires so many hardware-specific serial port functions that I doubt it can be emulated. I've been sworn to secrecy about the internals of VAG-COM, but will say that it took months to get the base serial communications function working reliably.
Of course, Uwe is the man to ask if you want an official answer.....

http://www.ross-tech.com/</a

As someone who is used to talk to serial instruments....
I can tell that it is highly unlikely that the VAG tool would use a non-standard serial protocol. It is just a matter of knowing the serial port settings (i.e., number of data bits, stop bit, parity, baud rate, etc.). This can be a hassle, usually to be resolved by tedious trial and error (but OTOH this info should be available on the 'Net).
As for VPC on Mac, it should work on older Macs with built-in serial ports. For newer Macs, I don't know if VPC will recognize USB/Serial converters or Serial PCI boards. Try looking up Connectix web site or the serial devices manufacturer's sites (Belkin, etc.).
Hope this helps.
