Yes. Both cars sit on top of the VW groups' so called A platform. Other cars on the same platform include the Audi A3 / S3, the VW Golf / Jetta / Bora, Skoda Octavia, and Seat Toleado. While major components such as engines, transmissions, drive trains, etc are shared, other parts like some suspension components and of course the "hat" (anything that sits on top of the chassis) are unique. The individual companies tune the A platform to their desired product specs. Some use the bigger engines, some dial in a softer suspension setting.<p>Let me know if you need more info...<p>Ralph

No, it shares it's platform with the VW Golf and the non-US A3. It has been heavily modified, though, with only 20% of the original platform unaltered. (info from Road & Track)<br>
