Default DSG Replacement Cost Estimate...>>>

Yesterday there was some speculation about the cost of DSG repair. So, I called my trusted Service Advisor to get a ballpark estimate for a total replacement out of warranty.

Labor: 14-15 hours at $145 per hour.

Parts: $4,000 to $4,500 including lubricants.

So, if a DSG tranny were totally useless and had to be 100% replaced out of warranty, the cost would be in the range of $6,175 to $6,675.

IIRC the cost of a standard tranny is about $3,500 and another $1,500 for clutch and flywheel replacement. So, there is a premium above that to fix and replace a DSG, but it may be not as bad as predicted.

In any event, my rule of thumb is not to drive an Audi or any German or any other car that is not covered by warranty or a service contract, so I still say:

Default 145/hr is ridiculous.....>>>

and i would trust someone like HPA may have a different number than that. I choose HPA as they have enough upgrades for the DSG....Call them to confirm...Just my 2 cents

Default It may well be, but that is a local shop rate for an Audi Dealer...>>>

Earlier this year I had a timing belt done at an Independent shop on a Toyota RAV 4. Their shop rate was $135 per hour, so maybe that is what is charged in this area.

Default Certainly sounds a lot better than I thought >>>

I was under the impression that the DSG tranny alone would cost over 6K ... makes me feel better.

Having driven stick for most of my life, I was skeptical about the DSG. But after a few weeks of driving, I still like it a lot and it is growing on me ... maybe I am getting old

Until the new TT comes around with a stick, DSG should keep me happy.

Default agreed...my Mercedes dealer has (some of) the most expensive rates around>>>(edited)

here in Fairfield County CT at 115/hr....my tuner is 95...the Audi dealership is 105....

I am sure i could find more expensive folks, but there are more cost effective solutions if you look...i am sure of it..
