Default Dynamat Extreme vs. Brown Bread vs. Quiet Coat

Which is the BEST sound proofing? Each site seems to claim that they are better than the other, and have test to "prove" it, any suggestions?

The latest stuff I found, its a liquid and they say they reduce like 2x more than dynamat?

Default Re: Dynamat Extreme vs. Brown Bread vs. Quiet Coat

Brown bread vs Dynamat X -> from what I read about 6 months ago, Dynamat was the better insulator and it weighed less. For me the the biggest plus was that Dynamat did not have a "scent" to it.
I dont know if BB smells, but if price is a factor go BB.

oh I havent heard of Quiet Coat, probably just an oversight on my part....as for the claims of mats using mass to dampen- that is not strictly true. All sound absorbers (that I know of) convert the vibration to thermal energy.

My time for dynamating the doors and trunk 4 hrs.

Trying to get rid of exhaust noise. Am I wasting my time?

Default ZGTT suggested putting Dynamat between exhaust and car >>>

to reduce noise at the source - will this work better than lining trunk, rear seats, and underneath driver seats?

Default For your answer, all you need to do is pull up the rear seat cushion &

drive around for a while.

Yes, it should make a big difference.

Default Dynamat Extreme vs. ... (more)

I used the Dynamat "extreme" in mine. Biggest factor for me is that it doesn't smell like tar, like many (but not all) of the others (also check out Fat Mat), and that it was immediately available (Best Buy, yes I know it's a rip off there), and that it works relatively well. Was taking the Fat Mat people too long to process and ship my order, so I cancelled it. D.Ex. also wraps into tight spaces better than some of the others.

None of these are going to eliminate noise, that's what your stereo is for...also maybe your tires have worn unevenly (as mine had). They'll all help a little though.

My installer was quite against the liquid stuff, he said if the TT were his, there's no way that stuff would come near it 'cause it's so messy. He thought the D.Ex. was about the best stuff he'd used. He hadn't heard of Fat Mat before but thought that looked good too.

My goal wasn't to eliminate road noise, and so they didn't wrap everything, just certain key points in the doors, around the speakers, under the sub (in my case, sits where the rear seat bottom used to be), and a little in spots around the hatch. I think it's certainly reasonable to try and eliminate more noise by using more (and I think Bob's idea around the muffler (or at least the heat shield around the muffler) is a good one), just remember that it's more cost and more weight. And we all know that the TT doesn't need any more of that... : )

Good luck,

Rich

Default I have not eliminated exhaust noise but >>

There was a definite diff. at 80mph (approx 3300rpms) my cell phone did not have to have vol maxed out.

Dmat on exhaust sheild sounds good.

Do aftermarket exhausts REALLY make the cabin quieter? I heard they were louder....but less resonance in the cabin - is that even possible?
