Easy break-in for VW/Audi door locks

My car got broken into a couple of weeks ago via the crappy door lock. I finally got around to talking to body shops and I asked about ways to prevent future breakins. The solution I got was to replace the lock with an empty cylinder and cover the piece on the door handle for the key with one that doesn't have a hole. Seems like a good idea, and I recall the Bug not having the keyhole on the door handle as well. The only downside is if there's ever a need to reprogram the remote.
Has anyone else come up with a solution on the door lock issue?
Thanks.

Here's my kind of solution (though you can rip them off easily).. haha
chrome door handle covers

Get the blank and cover. We've got lock cylinders on both doors so you'll need a pair of both. It was about $20-30 from the local VW dealer. Just make sure the battery on your remote doesn't die or you'll need to break into your car. Other solution would be an aftermarket alarm with triggers into the door switches directly. That way if the lock is bypassed turning off the stock alarm opening the door will still trigger the aftermarket alarm. Jeff Bipes has installation details on his site.
