Default Electrical problems -- could use help/advice

My TT is o.k. but my wife's 2000 A4 2.8 Quattro is not. Monday she started her car and the cabin filled with smoke from under the drivers seat. She shut the car off and when she restarted it, the airbag light was on. Took it to the dealer and find out the side airbag shorted out and took the wiring harness with it. $4500 to fix it and her warranty expired 2/18. Audi offered to pay half but it is still a whopper bill. I have done a couple searches on the A4 forum and found one other, very similar story with an interesting twist (see url below). I was wondering if anyone over here has any first hand knowledge of such a thing. Also, any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default Have you tried contacting a few Audi Parts shops??? You>>>

may be able to find the combo from a junk yard, or even go with aftermarket seats (which means you may lose the heated seats and airbag)...for that kinda ka-ching! i would consider all of the options...

The seat and airbag combo are not so much the problem ($500). The real problem is the wiring harness that connects up much of the interior electronics ($1600 plus 25 hours to install).
