Default Engine bay airflow analysis?

Anyone know of work done on removing heat from the engine bay by mapping/improving airflow?

Default Not that hard.....>>>

Just no one's done it that I'm aware of. I've temp monitored my airbox and have a cold air feed ducted to my aircleaner but you can only do that with a 180 or FMIC equipped 225. You can also remove the hood to firewall seal for some more inflow there. Other than scoops on the hood, we're stuck with the design.

Default Where do the split and front IC dump hot air?

Into the engine bay? Even partially?

There are three areas of heat gain that I am curious about... intake piping (not just air entry), intake manifolds, and the compressor housing itself.

Do you know if the K04 compressor is thermally isolated (thermal break material) from the turbine side?

Default I've done a lot of cooling related mods......

Insulated airbox with cool air feed
FMIC with temp monitoring
FMIC Automatic water misting set-up
FMIC Fan cooling set-up

The sidemount IC's dump heat into the wheel wells, The FMIC, being in front of the radiator dumps back into the engine compartment. Max temps I've seen (inlet side) were 200F, 100F at the outlet, so the FMIC is very efficient. Up to 93 % in normal driving. On the Intake manifold I am working with someone on Insulated Phenolic spacers which will also keep heat build up down. Go to my Fotki site below my sig and look at the Intercooler Cooling, and Cold air feed album for pictures and links to install info. Check the perf graphs section too....There is a heat chart on my car VS a Stage 3 simgle IC. 100F difference in intake temps! You can get lots of power here!

you could also use thermal wrap on all the pipes...some ceramic coatings and stuff.

What was the water temp increase with the addition of the FMIC?

Default None......(gauge still at 12:00).......>>

The cooling syatem has plenty of capacity. The FMIC acts more like a heat sink. Overall, while very effective, it never gets that hot.
