Im planning to drain and change the engine oil by myself this weekend. But i need to know how much oil i need to pour in a 1.8 engine. Could anyone suggest me what brand of engine oil is good for the TT. Thanks

Default

4.8qts, I use Mobil 1 synthetic, either 5w-30 or 0w-40

Default i would put in about 4.5qts, then check your dipstick and fill accordingly.

It's supposed to take 4.8qts like John said, but sometimes all of your old oil doesn't drain out and adding 4.8qts right off the bat might overfill it.

I used to use Mobil 1 Synthetic, but I switch to Royal Purple 5w-30 this last time around.

Default Our TT's are spec'ed for 5w-40...

That is the correct grade to use. I use M1 synthetic only. Turbo engines are hard on oil. Synthetic is the best to use do to it's ability to take more of a beating and not shear down or sludge up like conventional oils do.

Default you *sure* about 5w-40?

I've never heard that before.

Default i'm pretty sure it's 5W-30 (synthetic) and some guys move to 0W-40 (like me) >>

that have high-mileage (over 100k)

Default 0-40, 5-40 and 5-30 are all fine - if you live in hotter climates - stick with 5-40 or 0-40

if you read the results of many different oil analysis that have been done on a variety of all the synthetics in this weight range - all are usually good for 5k or more.

I use Mobil 0-40 - which is a VW 502 approved oil.

Default There is a technical service bulletin out

that I noticed in my Bentley that specifies 0W-40 for at least my year (2001) TT. Notwithstanding what msuave's owners manual says, I believe that TSBs have the power to amend manuals.

Default i agree.... 0w40 is probably a good choice....

but originally they were spec'd for 5w40, and it's still a good choice. I think 0w40 was added as another option, but didn't necessarily replace the 5w40 spec, did it?
