It seems that those are much more likely causes than the speed sensor. Also, like I said in my post above, if the car had been sitting for awhile and was cold it started fine which really seemed to rule out low battery voltage for me. It was only when the car was hot that it had any problems.

The computer at the dealer was wrong... I needed the longer of the two sensor parts despite what my VIN said, so it wasn't until I got into replacing the damn thing that I realized this. You're write up is very good.
The one thing I'd suggest for people looking to do this, is to buy a replacement dip stick tube. At 115k miles, mine was so brittle it fell apart while I was fishing the sensor wire by it - that cost me another 3 days to get that part.

So is your 225 a late build 2001 or early? Does it have the audi sport tag on the steering wheel? I'm wondering if any TTs actually use the shorter cable.
I just grabbed a dipstick tube from ECS to have as a spare. I knew when I did this repair that there was a slight possibility that it'd crack, I guess I got lucky.
Did you find any easier way to the sensor itself or did you just fight with the cables? There's usually an easier way to do stuff like that, it's just a matter of whether or not you see it.

This isn't the first issue I've had with my VIN... as far as Audi is concerned, my coupe is a roadster, says so on all the paperwork, but I can't get this hard top down to save my life ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The sensor isn't easy to get at, but with the with the filter out and the hoses pushed aside, its manageable.
The bracket in front of the sensor, that provides 3 mounting points for hoses, was easy to loosen up at the lower securing bolt and pivot out of the way, just don't completely remove it or it could be a bit painful to get threaded again. Once that was out of the way, I could get a 10mm on that sensor nut no problem.
The one thing I did do differently was this - I started beneath the car and removed the sensor first, and installed the new one. Then, I wire-tied the new connector to the old sensor. After disconnecting the old connector from the harness up top, I just pulled it up and brought the new connector along for the ride. Oh, and I used saran wrap to keep it clean instead of a rubber glove. Once both ends were connected, I reclipped those retainers along the dipstick tube then reassembled everything.
The dealer quoted me $700 for parts and labor, so the 2-3 hours it took was worth the aggravation and skinned knuckle![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The best part about this, is it actually fixed the problem!
