Default Fading cluster display: Common problem?

The upper left corner of the "combined" display in the middle of the instrument cluster is fading. That's where the sound source is displayed, for example, AM 740 (the A is most affected). This happens especially in hot wheather.
Is this a common problem?

Default Re: Common problem? Somewhat

Happened to my '99 A4. Dealer said they wouldn't replace it under warranty until it had a fault code registered (don't know how true that is), but they replaced it and didn't charge me (several thousand dollars).
