Default Anything non DOT or CARB approved is illegal. This is why cops are trained to identify blue hoses

on suspected modified cars. We just get away with a lot of stuff

But it all depends on the smog guy and place. Most folks wouldn't bother looking unless it's just too obvious. Black hoses usually pass the visual easy.

If the smog report says "modified" on any of the categories, that could be a red flag for the next smog guy. This is because the smog machine, if the test is completed, sends a log to the DMV server. If the next smog place passes it without any other notes, they could get questioned.

Default CA has the tightest laws in the nation. must be stock or CARB certified.

CARB = California Air Resources Board

Default Welcome to Ca. It is the benchmark of smog check. Other states, then countries will follow...

Don't believe me? Look at the underhood labels of cars built in the 80's to early 90's. Then look at later builts. Then look at the emission requirements on other countries lately.

BTW, I was a smog guy from '88 to '92 while in college

Default I know about CA being tougher than the rest of USA but this experience has nothing to do

with making sure that the car operates at correct emission levels. I think seneb is right, its all just a money scam. If they really cared about emissions they wouldn't care about Samco hoses and they sure as hell wouldn't have banned the electric car project ;-)

Default So, if i'm stock except I install new poly hoses for durability - would I fail?

I don't live in California,.... and I wonder about people who do. (excluding my former GF... she can stay there, she fits in fine)

Default now you tell me...

Going back to N. Calif. someday from my current home in Texas. Now I can worry about what may be declared unacceptable. Most obvious is the VDTA and Blue Flame exhaust.

Anyone had experience in California with smogging with VDTA or a cat-back exhaust?

I'd hope to shop for a shop that is reasonable and return there for new inspections.

Default I passed with no questions with Full RED Samco/SFS hoses, Greddy RS DV relocated, and Borla

exhaust. I did remove the TTDA and replaced with OEM prior to going out, as well as the boost machine. I was worried about the visual, but I think it is hit or miss on whether the specific shop cares or not.

FWIW, there "other means" to get ANY car approved...

Default yeah --

thanks -- yeah, it can be approved. I wouldn't intend to be a smogger, but I won't pour money into making it a stock car either.

I need to go look for my stock intake.
