Fastest way to clean that brake dust with/o chemicals!
In just under 5 minutes I used my newly bought 2500psi pressure wash and cleaned those wheels. It didn't even get the car too wet. Too bad you have to wash it every 15 miles. <p>JasonC

I put a very hard wax on my wheels and can wash with a regular spray hose and a brush now...
It doesn't take any real effort anymore with the wax on. I didn't want to put a soft wax on. I wanted something that was hard... seems to be working. I sprayed the wheels lightly then ran a brush over the wheels. They're clean again!
If I need chemicals, I use Simple Green Tire. It is biodegradeable.

Is it normally that hard to get the brake dust off? (more)
When I first got my TT, I put a coat of Zaino on my wheels too...You know...Dawn, Z1, Z2, Z6...And when I wash my wheels, I just spray them down with a regular hose, and then run a wash mitt over them with some Z7 and very light pressure, and they're clean. It's like 2 minutes tops for each wheel without the drying portion...Which my girlfriend usually does while I'm washing the next wheel. Heh.
I never really found the brake dust all that tough to get off, and I've always wondered why some people seem to imply that it's kinda hard to get the stuff off.

I should have put quotes around wax... it is actually an acrylic. (more)
Normally, I use a teflon "wax" product that my family has used on our boats (fiberglass/gelcoat). The stuff lasts forever. My supply (kept with boat) has been in Maine. So, I used some acrylic "wax" that I got from a TV Commercial actually (yes, I'm embarassed). But the stuff works. The label has been worn off the bottle because I've had it so long. I used to use it on my Altima. I figured it would work on the wheels.
When I do it again, I'll do the teflon "wax" instead. It works better I think. On the boat, it keeps the slimy stuff from attaching for 6 months (the boat stays on a mooring).
