My car was better after the retrofit. My car is now a custom built car....
not straight off the production line. Doors fit better and without wind noise. I also agree that ESP never comes on in normal driving in my TT. After driving on glazed over highway roads over Siskiyou Summit and past Mt. Shasta, well over the speed limit last winter from the NW to CA, I am not dissapointed but glad for the added security I had especially using stock tires. My hesitation to have the retro done was more hands screwing with the car. It returned flawless and is now equal in value and finish to the later models. In fact my car is stock without a failed dv or anything else for that matter. Cheap to have had done for the skilled labor and time involved for such a sophisticated retrofit.

I have retrofitted both ESP a spoiler. While I can't say I've driven in conditions where I could feel the spoiler (I rarely drive over 100 mph) the ESP has been very useful in the full of winter here in MA. While I can drive in any conditions in most any car (I learned to drive in Quebec in the winter) the ESP is a handy companion commuting in heavy traffic and poor driving condition.
I love the MKI suspension and would never replace it.

Upright child seat works, most cradle seats will not. ESP is priceless in rain and snow...
I turn ESP off most other times. It's a little more "active" than I like for agressive driving. I leave it on when it starts raining... It's nice to have...
MK1 vs. MK2... Don't know, I've read the same stuff as you. KW coil overs make it a completely different beast!
Look for DV failures, some ECU issues and the personal need to mod until the bank account is dry!

I own 180TTQ, Chip,Exhaust, Intake and MKI without ESP and wife owns stock 225TTR with ESP . . .
at this point I perfer my set-up. The only time I wish to drive her's is when the Top is down. The original MKI suspension set-up beats the current MKII handsdown. The fun-to-drive ratio is a couple notches higher. However, if I were to buy a TT today, I would purchase a Moro Blue 225TTC, mod the suspension, chip, exhaust and intake and upgrade wheels or wait until a true TTS is sold in the US. Good Luck!
