piece by the dip stick. Left everything else textured. I thought it looked better to mix it up rather than sand everything smooth. I'm gald I did it that way and it was easier too. I made a key observation about the main cover too...I painted it entirely black at first and then struggled MAO with taping to apply the other colors. "Ding" <light bulb illuminates over head!> After the black was dry, I could scrape it off the original silver portions! It worked like a charm! The rings and the "turbo" are original paint. Taping off the "5V" for the red accent color was piece of cake.

Also, how many coats of black did you use? That tip with peeling the paint off the silver letters/rings sounds great, but I'm afraid that too many coats might pose a problem. And lastly, did you use any primer? I'm going to paint mine fairly soon so any help would be great.

Actually, you'll find that the more coats you put on the easier it is to scape off down to the original paint. I had probably 5-6 coats down. Installed it in the car and drove for a few days while pondering my taping dilemma. I think the baking that took place during those few days helped me out with the scraping. I used my thumb nail as the primary tool! Very high tech! ;-)

I want dark grey, similar to what hottub and ttexan have. From what I hear any paint will do, but clearcoat has to be hightemp. No such issue with the paint you used so that makes it easier.
