Default Fire Extinguisher Mount

Here are some pics of how I mounted a fire extinguisher in my TTRQ.
My requirements were to have it accessible but unobtrusive.
I think my solution meets the accepted
"Jeff Bipes Functional Yet Simple And Economical (tm)" methodology (?)...

Starting with one basic chrome auto fire extinguisher,
I added two strips of adhesive-backed Velcro hooks at approx.
90 degrees apart over the length of the cylinder.

The carpeting in the vehicle provides the other half of the Velcro equation.
Press into place, and voila!

Two strips of Velcro seems to be quite secure for my situation, but if
necessary, just add more Velcro. Make sure that the Velcro is positioned
to engage the carpeting well when the fire ext is oriented to your
satisfaction. Fire extinquishers are pretty heavy, so make sure it's tight,
since you don't want a big hunk of metal flying around the car in the event
of an accident, etc.

Default Talking about mounting things in the car, I wanted to mount my Sony MD walkman ...

And I did the velcro thing. I stuck the velcro under the ashtray, and slapped the MD player (little thing) onto it.

I ran the attachment into the tape deck and it worked, except that it vibrates so much that it actually makes a MiniDisc skip!

So short of buying a head unit that does MDs, where else do you think I could mount it so that it doesn't vibrate so much?

Thanks
Kalki

Default That is perfectly ok for the street, but now allowed on the track . . .

I am referring to the installation. if the car were to roll over, the extinguisher would become a flying object that could kill you or the passenger.

If using the car on the track, or even an auto-x either remove it or get a proper bracket that is securely mounted.

Agreed. I'm not using the car on track or auto-x, just street driving.

Default I suppose should be aluminum, with dimples, but...

I got mine at www.performancebuyers.com in the Miata section (link
listed below).
I think it was on sale at the time, but the current price is listed as $50.
I've listed a bunch of links below to other sites that seem to carry the
same item, at higher and lower prices. Google search found lots, it
seems to be fairly common.

Normally, I might not spend so much, but since it's not too likely to get
used, I figured I could splurge on something that matched the TT's class...

Default Yeah... it's a compromise but acceptable to me given my needs.

Normally, I would prefer a screw/bolt-on mount, but can't think of where to
do it that isn't going to always be in my way. I don't really want to drill
into the bulkhead behind the seat, and I'm too chicken to think about
drilling into the floor...

Anyway, the Velcro mount is really very tight.
But I agree, track rules make sense, since there's a higher chance of
trouble under those circumstances (even if we do our best to prevent it! :-)

Default I have the same extinguisher. I mounted mine using one of the screws, passenger side, center

console. It's very secure and easy to get to. Sorry I don't have a pic.
