Default first oil change and synthetic oil

I recently scheduled my 5k oil change and the service dept said that Audi doesn't 'cover' synthetic oil in its free maintenance. True? I was told they'll use 5W-30 as standard... I thought synthetic came in the car from the factory, no?

Anyway, should I just take my own Mobil One and not leave it to them to decide what oil to use? (4+ quarts, right?)

Thanks

Default factory fill is 5W40 castrol synthetic blend. service department should be putting that in.

But if you want Mobil1 just bring it with you

True. At my dealer, you either bring in Mobil 1 or they will put in for a charge. It's 4.8 quarts.

Default You are correct .. . .synth from the factory and very few dealers put in synth at service . . .

most use dino juice. I bring a Mobil 1 6 pack and get back 1 + a little in another. Easier to give them a sealed case.

Default thanks alot...

Denny I forgot where you said you took your TT... I ended up in Wallingford as it was the closest and will just see how things go there.

Good idea on the 6 pack Larry, I'll do the same.

Default Audi only pays for dino as part of free maintenance...

Synth or synth blends are extra.

At least at my dealer, they just charge the price differential between what their cost is and what Audi will pay for...

Default Just made an appt. at Clair for 5k service, they don't use synthetic unless you request it, and then

it costs $16 for Mobil 1. How does that compare to buying it at the store???

Default Should the first oil change really be @ 5k?

This seems sort of late doesn't it? I have always swapped my grease every 3k at the most.

I did see that 5k was the first scheduled in the maintenance guide however..
