Default floormat "woes"

Bah. I've had the car for almost 3 months now, and have about 9k miles on it. The only thing that has progressively pissed me off more and more, is the driver's side floor mat. heh. I have a tendency to rest my foot in the same exact spot when I drive, and this has left a HUGE indentation in the carpeting of the floor mat. So I opted to buy some Stratmosphere mats, which I like a lot, but the same thing is happening to them now. I've not "ruined" a mat yet, since I switched to stratmosphere, they just both have these indentations that could be removed. However, given enough time, they're going to wear a hole in there.

So what to do? I remember hearing long ago of someone posting about a floor mat that has a thick padding in that area, but I couldn't find it doing a search. Perhaps this is something Roger at Becart can fabricate? Perhaps a thin aluminum strip to attach to the floor mat, where a foot would rest? My sole purpose in getting the stratmosphere mats wasn't in hopes of them solving the problem, but rather to preserve my original mats so that if I sell the car if/when the fabled TTS comes out, the car still looks in good shape (this is the ONLY thing that makes the car look like its even been used in the car, except for that huge stain in the rear hatch area).

So anyone have any suggestions? I think the stem of my individual problem comes from having size 12.5 feet, so my heel digs right on.

Default Same problem, I bought...

a set of auto-store black mats that fit well, for like $20. They are actually holding up better than the stock ones. I figure I can replace them a lot eaiser than the stock ones, and if the *expensive* alternative ones do the same, I'll stick to the auto-parts store ones, and keep the stock ones mostly pristine.

Default My opinion is that the Audi mats are relatively inexpensive, so I'll just replace them..

when they get too bad. The same is happening to my driver's side mat. I don't expect this solution to be good enough for most, but I don't want to put a rubber mat in my car, and you can't get the Stratmo mats with the TT logo anymore.

I certainly am on the side of using the car, since it is my daily driver and if things wear, then that's because they were used. I eat and smoke in my car, as most of you know, so I am somewhat of a heathen 'round here!

I also found that my Dr. Martens eat floor mats faster than my other shoes. Vibram soles wear quickly and don't eat carpet as fast.

Just my way. Good luck.

Default Years ago on a Miata, my driver's side mat kept wearing out prematurely and the dealer ...

kept replacing it under warranty. Option here?

Default Well...

I'd rather not burden my dealer with this, because its really not their fault, nor is it Audi's fault (I guess they could have made thicker mats, but..). Reason I feel this way, is because I have fairly large feet, and I really tend to (unconsciously) dig my foot into the mat when I drive. So I'd rather not burden the dealer with this, especially since it happens after about 3 weeks (carpet starts to wear down). They'd get real sick of seeing me after 2 or 3 visits.

Default I don't think that's it. My feet are quite a bit smaller than yours ;-) and my mat is wearing after

only a couple of thousand miles. (And I even drive barefoot some of the time.)
