Default Forge DV lesson 101

I have a Forge DV that came with 4 different strength springs and a couple shims.
I fully understand what the springs are for and how they affect turbo boost releave, but I'm not quite sure what the shims are for.
So please disregard my blatant ignorance and give me a lesson 101 on DV shims, as I seem to be having a comprehension disability. Please also incorporate a few examples of when/where you would use shims/no shims.
Thanks a ton
Andy

Don't know what your level of mods are, but a green spring with a shim or 2 oughta do it..
All the shims do is increase th spring rate a bit. Yellow is generally too stiff, but a green with a shim or 2 is just right for most conditions..

Shimming...
