Default less drivetrain loss, less weight with FWD

but the all-weather gains of Quattro are high, and the sheer poseur-dom of driving a modern audi without quattro should turn you away from fwd models ;-) just kidding. the quattro system will be slower than FWD, but there are many other ways in which the 2 differ....

I thought there's barely any drivetrain loss on a haldex since it's a FWD for the most part, no?

Default more to the story than just weight

FWD may be lighter, but it only has 2 drive wheels, and they're on the wrong end of the car for quick starts. FWD can only handle so much power during launch before you get wheelspin. In theory, having 4 wheels worth of traction at launch can be A Very Good Thing! Audi claims the 180 FWD 0-60 is 7.6 sec, and the Quattro 180 is 7.7, so it's not much of a difference. Of course, the Quattro 225 is faster than the FWD 180 ... :-)

Default Well, since the 225 only comes in quattro...

...And I would assume that the 3.2 TT will only be offered with quattro, that would mean that quattro is faster.

Default Quattro good in dry and wet weather

There is the obvious argument for Quattro if you are in a harsh or cold climate (which I am). But I notice nearly as much benefit from Quattro on dry pavement. Personally, I wouldn't think twice about Quattro. Get it.

Default Here's the way I understand it:

Theoretically, the FWD would be faster because there is less drive-train friction to reduce HP to the ground. In practice, though, the AWD system transfers the power more evenly on startup.

My A4 is FWD, and will chirp tires where a similarly equipped Quattro will grab and go. I'm betting that my 70 to 120 time is faster, though.

Remember, I'm a math teacher, not a car expert.
