Default I'm always learning new things here but I was thinking......................

If you put a table spoon of dirt in a glass, some will obviously sink to the bottom, some will still be suspended in the water. If you suck up the water with a straw about 2/3 down the glass it will suck up some of the suspended dirt. The lower the water gets the more likely you are to suck up more dirt because the percentage of dirt to water is greater as the water level goes down. The more sloshing occurs and the more the dirt gets suspended in a lower volume of water. The fuller the glass the lower the percentage of suspended dirt. Does that make any sense or is that just stupid. BTW I just went out to look at my TT gas tank and forgot that it was in for coil packs and not in my garage, now that is stupid!

Default Yes, it is.

The bottom of the pump sits in a small depression molded into the tank.

Default Re: ok, but if the pickup doesn't go that low

wouldn't the pump would still pick up some of the settlement from the bottom as it swishes around, but isn't that the job of the screen and filter?

Default I know on my Subaru the fuel pump uses a filter sock of some sort........

when I had problems the sock was covered with silt like dirt. Leaving me with poor suck and poor performance. I guess the problem then becomes, the more dirt you suck up, the shorter the life of the filter.

Default its a known fact that topping off certain audis can cause

the evap charcoal canister to become saturated, resulting in either an inability to fill the tank (pump keeps clicking off) or an inability to start the car.

Default It also causes you to waste gas & pay for gas you aren't getting...

That extra ounce of gas you are trying to get probably just ends up in the gas station's vapor recovery system. & get real, how much farther will that little bit of gas really get you.
