Default Getting new MAF element but need help..

Ok, I've decided I'm going to go ahead and replace the MAF element to see if this corrects my current problems, however I'm not sure as to what exactly gets replaced. I've looked at the connection and I'm not sure I see how you replace anything except for the electronical part screwed directly on top of the MAF cylinder.

So does replacing the element mean the connection on the MAF body or the connection that clips on top of the MAF assembly? Whichever it is how do you replace it? Anyone have a good site to access the part?

Sorry for my lack of technical knowledge

Default Well, if you are getting the part from the dealer,

You'll get the MAF body and the MAF itself. You can just unplug the wiring harness, and undo the two hose clamps holding it in, and swap the new one in....Just make sure to put the other one in the same way......the MAF element direction makes a difference.

Look at the pic above....just never mind the TTDA, it's the same as yours.

Default Well dont need a new MAF body..

I will be getting the BAMM from Steve shortly. So what you are saying is the actual 'element' is the connection part directly connected to the MAF body? I would assume then that Steves BAMM doesnt come with the element, you have to use you old one or a new one?

Default Another thought.....

Have you tried cleaning your current element? Sometimes that fixes a problem. Just take it out, and spray it with some electronics cleaner and put it back in (facing the same direction that you took it out). I'd try that before you spend $80 at the dealer.

Default Correct....

the element is what is sticking out of and into the body....but, the dealer only sells it as one piece because it is held in by security head torx screws.

When you get Steve's BAMM, you'll have to remove the element, so you can just use a pliers on the head of the screws to get them loose. They have a large lip around the head that you can grip with pliers. And don't worry, when you put the element in the BAMM, the BAMM comes with easy to use thumb screws.

Default correct...BAMM is only the housing which is slightly larger for increased air. the MAF from

the dealer comes with everything attached...housing and MAF sensor. best to try and clean it first, like Kareem of WheaTT says...although mine went out after 5 years of service!

I cleaned mine4 times.

Default had not tried that..

but I guess I should first..

Kareem, I'm getting confused. What I am gathering from what you are saying is the 'element' involves the whole cylinder and bottom connection. This is all I need to replace? I was thinking the whole part cost 200 some dollars?

Default Well......

when you get the part from the dealer, it is the cylinder and the "element", the part that sticks into the cylinder with the plug on top. The dealer should sell you a reconditioned one for about $80. Mine did. The part number was 06A-906-461-EX... it was $85 to be exact.

Default OK, cool I'm getting the picture..

it was confusing me a little.

so is there anyway to source just a new element or do I need to buy a whole new assembly if the cleaning doesnt work? I dont need to spend over 200 for the whole assembly if I will be tearing it apart and putting steves BAMM in.
