Default GReddy Profec-B install FAQ

A few asked, so here it is:

A few notes: On the profec-B, there are 4 jumpers on the control unit that can be set for low or high boost operational modes. the profec-B will not work (esp on upgraded turbos) unless set to HIGH BOOST mode! beware, for selecting the wrong mode and flooring it will result in unregulated boost... which is never a good thing.
i forgot which directino is up and down on the switches, but 1~4 atlernate up, down, up, down (or down, up, down, up, etc). it explains quite clearly in the pamphlet that comes with the unit.

i'm sure the profec-B could be used with a stock turbo. however, i don't see much reason. the stock turbo can't push anymore air than it already is, it is already amxed out. so unless youy want to turn DOWN the boost, i don't see why you'd get the boost controller.

still, you can drive fine with the N75 plugged in but zip-tied somewhere in your engine compartment. mine is. works fine. no CELs either (associated with it, at least). The N75 has three ports, (right? i forgot, haha, been so long since i had a stock car), manifold vacuum, output to wastegate, and a return line to the intake pipe. tie off the return line going to the intake, feed the wastegate actuating hose into the OUT of your boost controller actuator unit (remember to mount this unit vertically, hoses upward). the manifold vacuum can be fed into the control unit, thru the fire wall.

<img src="http://images2.fotki.com/v20/photos/4/42448/216485/tt_pics004-vi.jpg">
for the actuator unit IN, rather than use manifold vacuum (4mm hose), i used a thicker/bigger hose and tapped off a charge hose immediately off the turbo. this avoids the transient condition if the blow-off valve actuates (for whatever reason) before the WG, in which case the manifold pressure will have dropped and the actuator won't have as much pressure to utilize to close the wastegate.

Hm, this might not be worth of a FAQ subject heading, but anybody with more questions can juse email me. bed time.

Default Why someone with a stock turbo would want to use a boost controller..

Couple of reasons.. actually 2 that I can think of..
The N75 is a little slow to reacting to things.. Ive been told that it takes too long for the N75 to react, which is why I am having spiking issues.. With a boost controller like yours I can set a peak of 19psi and hold 19psi throughout the rpm range.. With the N75 it will spike and fluctuate from 19psi to 18psi to 17psi back to 19psi.. Not exactly constant..
If I keep the titty... I think I might go this route.. Im not interested in requesting for more boost then what Ive got now, I just want to ensure I hold boost throughout the rpm range.. I would also like to see boost tapper off more at the end of the rpm range (something the x-chip doesn't do).. Id keep the x-chip and just run the EBC with it so fuel isn't an issue.. Ive talked with Tony at PES and hes a pretty firm believe in EBCs..

Im going to send an email to giac to see what they think of the EBC..

How hard was setting this thing up???

Default hard if you have to troubleshoot, easy if not.

the jumpers are key, the hose routing is key, and the instructions (translated from japanese to english) such a fatty. i'm fluent in japanese, and even the japanese instructions sucked a fatty.
