grinding in 2nd gear! synchros or gear linkage adjustment?
I've been having 2nd grind almost all the time now. I had brought it to the attention of the dealer around 45k, but was to intermittent for them to do anything (i.e., "couldn't replicate"). I'm now at 65k, and grinds consistently. I've replaced the tranmission oil or Mobil 1 Syn Trans 75-90, but didn't help. 1st and 2nd gears are pretty notchy, so I'm thinking it's an adjusment issue. I'm hoping it's not the synchros.
I can keep it from grinding when I shift from 1st to 2nd by first shifting into neutral and then into 2nd. If I'm shifting quickly and straight into 2nd, then grind! Btw, I don't grind at all while the engine is still relatively cool.
Any advice? I was thinking of changing the trans oil again with something thicker. I've looked how to adjust the shifter, but I seem to have more than 1/8" play while in 2nd and pushing to the left. Maybe too much play.
If it's the synchros, is there any aftermarket transmission replacement? It's pretty expensive to replace or rebuild the damned thing (dealer)!

Mobil 1 is your problem
I think Mobil 1 is a great oil, but it's a GL-5 spec....too slipery for our syncros. You need a GL-4 spec like Red-line MT90. I have 92k on my TT and never had a problem with gringing gears.

Dunno how long the process takes but I would change it as soon as possible
Here is one example of what should be used in the tranny (synthetic GL-4 only). See pdf file.
"This lubricant is compatible with copper containing alloys, such as those found in synchronizers."
There are other brand names available as well, but Mobile does not make a GL-4 compatible oil though.

http://www.pzlqs.com/Tech/Pdsheet/QuakerState/Gear&Transmission/pdf/UltraPremiumSyntheticSAE75W-90GL-4.PDF
</
