Default Maybe as a function of Traction, but not power distribution.

Which is a function of gearing..

Default in general speak, AWD ia always better but if you throw in weights, power distribution etc....

then it will be comparing car to a car.

Default Re: Handling Comparison - AWD vs. FWD

I thought the responses were going to be more clear cut, but apparently there is still some uncertainty over how Haldex is implemented and how much difference it makes. The consensus here is that Haldex is preferred, but I will continue to enjoy my FWD all the same. We've still got ESP working to handle the unexpected and the lighter weight and improved fuel economy are not without their advantages.

In any case, it was thought provoking to read that though not quite as purposeful as Torsen, the Haldex system is arguably the best clutch actuated AWD implementation. You've got to think that Audi wouldn't stake the Quattro name on something that was markedly inferior to the Torsen system.

Default both are good AWD systems and anyone who tells you that one is MUCH better than other

is wrong and probably biased, especially when it comes to regular mass produced cars. As for having AWD over FWD/RWD...I frankly don't care all that much when it comes to dry road. On the wet/snow AWD is far superior and worth every compromise IMHO.
