Default Whatever happend Undetectable APR chip???

I remember reading this somewhere saying that APR chip was undetectable to VAG. The only way to see it would be to open it up.

So in this case, the tech guy opened the ECU up? or just read the dealership number from the VAG, then asked the owner.. who told him it was chiped with APR?!?!?! since it did not match dealership num..!?!!?

Default Why would an ECU have a "dealership" number? I don't understand...

Anyone?

Maybe the EMCS conversion changes this number or resets it somehow...better to ask APR

Default Lots of unanswered questions. From the post it sounds like they didn't detect a chip, but they....

were able to tell it wasn't the original ECU.

What is an ECU / chip and why would you change it?

Default answers . . .

The ECU is the cars onboard computer. It is responsible for just about everything that the car does.

The part that we are mostly interested in is getting more performance out of the car. Various companies, known as "Tuners" or "Chip Tuners" reprogram the computer, or the chip inside of the ECU and allow us to run a higher boost for the turbo. They also reprogram other things to compensate for the higher boost.

It transforms the car into a much faster machine!

Default Wow. Its hard to believe it could be faster.

But it seems kind of silly to complain about the warranty being voided if you do that sort of thing to your car.
