Default Has anyone had a problem with their coil packs?

To make a long story short, TT is running very poorly. When under full throttle, it is detonating. I figured it was either the DV or the new FMIX X Chip software. Checked the DV, and it was stuck. Replaced with new Bosche valve, but did not solve the problem. Hooked up Vag, and found that it was misfiring on cylinders 2 and 3. I think it threw code 1668 and the one right after that one. Tech seems to think that means the coil for the plugs are bad on #2 and #3 cylinders. The car runs completely normal except for under full throttle. Is this indicative of a bad coil pack?

Default not sure if it is a full throttle thing, but if the coil pack is bad

it would probably rear its ugly head more when it is required to produce more spark.

Go over to VWVortex and ask this in the 1.8T forums, I have read numerous threads about coil packs over there.

Default The confusing part to me is that the car runs completely normal, except...

under full throttle. Could this mean that they are on their way out, and not completely toasted yet?

Default Think of it like this.....I have had the same thing happen to me with

my old Cabrio...

Car would run fine, under full throttle it would sputter etc. Turned out to be a bad spark plug wire..when more juice was flowing, it was arcing on the block, at idle etc, it wasn't enough to make it arc.

Default I've found misfires in two TTs running APR (mine and a friends), it still continues with the

FMIC X-Chip. I haven't thrown any DTCs, though. I'm wondering if occasional misfires are normal, and only get registered as a DTC when they've accumulated.

Check the voltage of the plugs (blk 64 I think), see if they are dirty.

Default The misfiring is more than normal. It happens every time I attempt to go full throttle. Something...

is definitely wrong. I'm pretty sure that it is bad coil packs. I'll check the plugs, but they are only about 2 months old.

Default I've had coil packs replaced, but it was due to misfires.....

at start up as opposed to full throttle.

Had 4 plugs replaced, 2 coil packs (ignitor coils) and this did not completely solve the problem. I've now had the ECU replaced but just got back from vacation so am not sure if this was the cure all to the problem.

Default Re: Has anyone had a problem with their coil packs?

Yes,

My TTR is OK but my A3 Turbo had a faulty coil pack, took Audi Australia nearly 3 months to track the problem down, intermittent missing and stalling. Now seems to be OK.
