if you are using the OEM running gear, gonna be tough to do anything>>>

Go with a 3.2 VR6 manual trans: forge internals + gt40 = 500+ whp...
keep it simple and extremely fast it will be lighter than the v8 and there is a ton of aftermarket parts for it. And by the way less headaches to install.
