Default I believe the tuners are getting ~260hp for the 225 1.8T, thats without exhaust! NICE ;)

I think a TT with over 300hp would be insane, don't think I have the means to achieve it with my current setup, or budget, but maybe someday down the road a TT with 250-275hp stock will come out and be affordably upgraded to 300+, that with quattro, I think we are in Vette smokin territory!
If you get a chance at one of the So-Cal TT meets to do a 0-60 against a chipped/exhaust upgraded 180Q, make sure to let us know!(that is of course after you break the Gray Avenger in)

Hope we are on the same page again Brad.

This car is pretty quick as is. It would absolutely smoke with minor mods. I'm not so sure the exhaust would even need to be upgraded. And the sound is pretty sweet. I'll bet that the 225 could go well over 250 hp with ease.

Default No doubt the 225 can pull 260hp with relatively minor mods. Tuners are making some big numbers with

the 1.8T as we know;300+ hp has been a stage 3 option with many (KO4, exhaust manifold, exhaust system, ECU etc). What is so cool about the 225 is that it is a factory hotrod 1.8T and as such has the kind of upgrades that would be cost prohibitive in the after market. I'm talking of course about the engine internals an gear box; there is no way you can get the con rod, piston, bearing upgrades in a standard 1.8 without spending many, and I do say many, thousands of dollars. Even the 180hp TT engine is a great improvement over the 150hp 1.8Ts of the A4 etc. Because it's engine management software is from the factory and I don't care what anyone say's, you can't do better than the factory software. That is to say the over all drive ability of the factory software is unassailable. This does not mean you can't get a good chip in the after market only that it will fall short of the factories in some way if not in outright horse power. People who have had much experience with chipped 150hp 1.8ts say the 180 hp TT beats the all in over all power/ drive ability. I won't be at all surprised if, after fully running in the 225, you decide it is powerful enough. But if not there will be plenty of solutions for more power. One more thing that all TT drivers should remember and that is the 4 cylinder cars are going to have a weight advantage over any 5 or 6 cylinder variants that may come along. More than one great tuner has essentially said "if you what to go faster, make it lighter". How many times over the years have we seen a sports car grow heavier and heavier with each passing year? As the owner of a 2000 180FWD I am happy in the knowledge that no TT will ever be lighter than the one sitting in my garage. No, that doesn't make if the best TT (I think as things stand now the 225 holds that distinction) but it is a light car and that appeals to me. Anyway Brad it is very cool that you have the new rig, best of luck with it. JIM

Default If you saw what came off the 180TTQ for an exhaust, you would understand why it should be replaced

HUGE briefcase sized muffler, small pipes, not mandrel bent, and a CRUSHED part(very restricted airflow!) The guys @ J+M Corvettes couldn't believe such a nice and expensive looking car had such trash for exhaust.

The the Dual on the 225Q is anything like the 180's it SHOULD be replace as soon as something comes out for it.

Default Thanks, Brad

I'm sure we all enjoyed the comparo.

One question I did have: could they have made other mods to the suspension of the 225, simply in the interest of helping it cope with the added power, that were unrelated to the recall issues?

I hope the 225 brings you many years of fun!

I don't believe so. I believe that the differences are directly related to the suspension modifications.

Default According to MTM, rear muffler = 5hp, centre exhaust + rear = 15hp

thats on their 250 hp chip, and given the prices they charge the extra5/15hp are not worth it!!

Graham 225q....but chip chip to get??
