so I decided to try some of the insulation suggested earlier - it's a 3-ply aluminum sound damping sheet from McMaster.com .
It's p/n 9709T25 (pg. 3270)
Adhesive-Back Damping Sheet 3-Ply Alum, .015" Thk, .4 lb/SF, 24" X 48", Silver
$ 20.16 Each

"Dampers reduce sound caused by vibrating surfaces. The damper material flexes slightly to convert vibration into heat energy so noise is deadened. Usually made of elastomer materials such as vinyl or PVC, damping materials are applied directly to vibrating surfaces such as ducts and mechanical equipment housings.
A damper's ability to reduce vibration is represented by the Damping Loss Factor (DLF) . The higher the DLF, the more the damping material reduces vibration and sound."
Its lighter and has a higher damping coefficent than dynamat.
I applied it to the entire trunk area (minus sides, as I didn't take off the side paneling), and under the rear seat. I order 4 sheets, and used almost 3 to do the job. When I get a chance, I'll use the last sheet to do the rear sides.

Those that heard my car know that it's got a real deep exhaust note, and it gets pretty loud at around 3k rpm. This has calmed it quite a bit, and at cruising, it's pretty damned quiet (at least to me). Even at 3k rpm, it doesn't drone (once again, at least to me), however at WOT, forget about it, it's all wonderful music! I don't mind that loudness, per se, it's more the droning that I didn't care for.
Btw, a secondary benefit that occurred was that the bass from my woofer sounds so much cleaner and louder!

type material also. The damping stops vibration.. but absorbing sound waves is better accomplished with a layer of dynamat extremeliner.
