Default Headlight Question - Schwing? dealer says bulb may not be the problem...

2002 TTR w/ HID lights. One of the lights(HID in the regular low-beam slot) started turning pink a few months ago. New bulbs (OSRAM
XenarcD2S 35W 66040) cost $198! Parts guy said that in his experience, the bulb usually just goes out at once, and I might actually have a "starter" (like tube lights)problem. If i buy the bulb, and it's still pink, what do I check next? Part#, location? Any help to keep me from having to go to dealer service would be appreciated...

Default You might need...>

A new ballast (the aluminum box 4x4x1 or so), mounted on the side of the light housing. I'm not real versed in HID technology though...Maybe you could swap in your known good bulb and see if it still looks pink. That would point to the ballast. BTW the best place to get one is off a used or damaged light on Ebay...Otherwise I think the part is $450 or so...Yikes!

New D2S bulbs can also be sourced much more cheaply on Ebay..

Default even if it goes outs at once, it still doesn't mean that its the bulb. i've had the HID go out

and it wasn't the bulb...it was the starter.

i bought some D2S from eBay...pair of them for about $80.<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-NEW-REPLACEMENT-OSRAM-D2S-XENON-BULBS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQihZ011QQit emZ320009237724QQrdZ1">D2S bulbs</a></li></ul>

Switched bulbs - pink on other side, so changed to new bulb! Starter will probably go next...
