Default Help ! Could someone please tell me if this looks like a collapsed H&R spring ... ??

I've had these H&Rs for about 55k KM now, had absolutely no problems and love em. Maybe its just me but lately the TT has been feeling more bouncy than usual, small bumps/cracks on the road feel more significant than before. I know that i have heard many previous times of other springs (forget name, light blue in color) collapsing, has anyone ever heard of this happenning with H&R Sports ? Upon inspection, the rear driver's side spring looks more compressed than the passenger side, the driver's side 3rd coil from the top is touching the 4th coil fully whereas on the passenger side the 3rd coil clearly isn't touching the 4th as much. Should i be concerned? I appreciate if anyone has any info, cheers. - Max

I hear "progressive" springs look like that.

And what might progressive mean in this case ?

Certainly does not look like an Eibach spring! Unless you have 2,000 lbs of bricks in the trunk.

Default I switched out my H&Rs for this exact reason...

1.) I would get a clunk in the back, cause the spring would sit on itself in the back...

2.) you could see that the coils were binding cause the red paint was coming off the top and bottom of the coil, but not the sides- ie rubbing... if that is what you are getting call H&R they will replace them.

I went with APR Rollcontrol and am VERY happy- especially since I got them new for $100 from APR- don't ask ;-)

Default That IS part of their design

the rear suspension needs a spring that has alot of movement or range. when you hit a big unloading bump, you need a spring that'll extend very far. if it wouldn't, they'd pop out under that action. the bottom the spring is your real or main part of the spring. it kinda looks like a pigtail, and that's a nickname for it's design. if your car is feeling soft, your shocks can be tiring. yes they're lifetime against failing, but they do fade in stiffness.

Default they have progressive spring rates for cornering and

ride comfort. Plus, it's the dampers that "kills" the recoil energy of the spring...could be your dampers.

Default Some tightly-spaced coils, some loosely-spaced coils. Allows a spring to be soft over little bumps..

... and stiff over bigger ones. Tightly-spaced coils are softer, soaking up little bumps, while wide spacing is stiffer. Basically allows you to have many spring rates in one spring.

The fact that your coils are compressed in the pic is not necessarily bad - it doesn't mean the spring is failing. But Max, I'd say you're bouncing because you're riding on stock shocks, which are probably dead now.

Default See how these look compared to Bilstein's PSS9's....>

Bilstein has told me over, and over, and over that these are OK. I thought H&R made the springs for Bilstein.

Mine originally popped at times, but rotating the spring corrected the popping most of the time.

Default That is good to hear, should i contact H&R directly or go to a local dealer ?

The guy who installed em for me is Al Solaroli of Solaroli Motorsports and is the distributor for H&Rs around here.

I AM getting clunking in the back, on the driver's side that's collapsed and the paint IS coming off just like you mentionned.

How did you deal with your damaged goods before switching to the APRs? thanks
