Default Help! Dealer cannot duplicate my crazy gas gauge.

It went in for a bad FSU, it was leaking gas fumes into the car. After I got it back, I could not fill up the tank all the way. The most I could get in from almost empty was 9 gallons. The gauge only went up to 3/4. Then the other night, with a friend in the car, the gauge started jumping, and I mean moving like a tach up and down and to full, then back down, very quickly for about 10 seconds. Then I tapped it and it started jumping more. "Dealer cannot duplicate". Any ideas? I told them that I am going to bring the car to fill it up, then bring it right back to show them. Anyone know why this would happen? BTW, this was before my fender bender.

Default i'm going through the same exact thing right now...

dealer replaced the FSU...it didn't fix the problem...now i also occasionally get gas fumes in the car after i fill it, as well as the needle going haywire.

was also told, just yesterday, that they could not duplicate the haywire needle or the gas fumes or the gas gauge getting stuck on "full" even after i've been driving around for hours.

i'm starting to get pretty fed up with AoA and regretting ever getting this car, as much as i love it to death (when it's working properly).

best of luck getting it resolved.

I am SO considering Lemoning it, but I don't know if my accidents affect that.

Default have you had the gauge cluster replaced yet?

that's the only other thing i can think of that will fix it if the FSU replacement isn't cutting it.

an S2000 is seeming more and more like a better option to me every day.

Default Re: I had the same thing happen to me in DC off all places

I was headed home and pushing the tank to get as far away as possible for the sniper. I had been driving for about an hour watching the gauge down from 1/2 to 1/8 and it ran out of gas. The computer insisted that I had 60 miles to empty and the gauge read 1/8.

After sitting for a while with the car on but not running, I noticed the gauge began to bounce around between 1/4 and E.

I have and appointment Monday to have it looked at (and the 30k checkup). Let me know if you guys find any thing out that will help my dealer diagnose.

Default Mine did the same thing a few times. They replaced both>>

the fuel senser and the whole instrument cluster. Dealer says they keep a good supply of the latter on hand since there've been so many problems-- Good luck!
