HELP! Engine speed between gears holding steady even after clutch pressed

I have been a having a problem recently with notchy 1-2-3 gear shifts. I am scheduled to take it into the dealer this week for that and general servicing...
Today I was able to confirm very strange behavior that I thought I had seen a couple of days ago - on some shifts, the engine speed holds steady even though the clutch is pressed. In other words, if I am am in 3rd (for example) and the rpm is at 4k, you would expect the rpm to drop when the clutch is fully pressed. It sometimes doesn't and stays at 4k through the shift to 4th. I have managed to spot this a few times and have noticed that if I simply hold the clutch fully in (without engaging the next gear), the engine speed hold for up to 4 seconds before dropping to the normal range.
What could be causing this? Clutch? Transmission? Electronic Gremlins? Or is this just a unique built in rev-matching option (a little humor can't hurt...much).
I would like to get some feedback before taking the car in. Thanks.

The emissions system or a possible vacuum leak somewhere.. Could also be a faulty or gummed up Throttle body....Dealer should be able to figure it out..

Can't take it into dealer for another week as they are doing inventory. Yeah... first time I see a dealer shutdown for a whole week for inventory, too. Doesn't bode well for the new dealer experience.
Anyway, I noticed today that the problem is there even when stationary and there is no engine load. I can rev the engine when in neutral and the engine speed rises and drops normally. However, if I then press the clutch and keep it fully pressed as I rev the engine the engine speed rises and then hangs most of the time before eventually falling.
Does that give any of you a better idea of what could be going on? Thanks for your feedback.
