Pricing on all of these will exceed $36k unless you're buying something VERY used. You'll be lucky to see a certified Cayman at these prices, and "certified" isn't even an option for Lotus.

The Exige top is "technically" removable...but not without tools and a significant amount of work.

The Solstice engine will be a turbo 4-cylinder, not a V6.

And cargo isn't even a factor in your choices...unless you consider a laptop "cargo"

Only differences are that I decided that the Lotuses (Loti?) were just too hard core, and I kept the Vette on my list and included the Z4 Coupe and the Mk2 TT coupe 3.2. Quite a few of this group are available < 35K nearly new or a couple of years old.

Then the economy got crappy and our sales tanked, and I decided to do some maintenance and a bit of improvement and drive my Mk1 for a couple more years. It is not a daily driver so if it needs maintenance along the way, that is not an inconvienience. Besides , I expect we are finally at the bottom of the depreciation curve on clean Mk1s. They will probably flatten out for a few years now at $10,000 or so private party sale. I've had mine 5 years now and lost more than $3000 per year in value. That certainly can't continue. Good thing too because the 2006 A6 we bought last December lost close to $10000 value in one year, and my 2007 Toyota Tundra has lost about $15000 value in a year and a half. The TT is our "economy car"

The engine will go down in history as one of BMW's best creations and overall, one of the best NA 6 cylinders made... over 100 hp/liter.

The production numbers for the coupe make it the rarest M since the M1. Additionally, the next gen. of Z4 will be a convertible hardtop.. so this might be the last fixed roof 2 seater BMW makes for awhile.

And as far as prices go.. I bought my Z4 coupe 3.0si for $34k, BRAND NEW. If I had $4-5k extra and the extra income to pay for higher insurance, fuel costs, etc. I'd be driving an M. You can find plenty of Z4Ms with less than 20k miles for the low $30s.

want or need, just cash burning a hole in your pocket. These cars are all as different as night and day. Regardless of what you buy, you'll be selling it in less than a year. Lust will do that! Keep shopping, my friend. And add TT, Z, and Vet to your list.

and I got it. Every car that I have owned I have always loved...and bought it. So, you are wrong. I'm not out to prove anything to anyone. This is only my self absorbed need, and yes, cash is burning a whole in my pocket. Only one life to live.

I did mention that the Cayman was the only one with ample cargo space, and I am well aware of future maintenance on top of the purchase price. I can't say that I am going to buy a $36K car for $50K and factor in the total price right now. That's like paying taxes in advance.
