Default Help! Mk1 Audi TT Coolant Leak (passenger side black of engine)

Hey guys! New to the Audi forums. this is actually my first post.

Bought my TT not too long ago and recently notice a coolant leak coming from the passenger side of the car where the coolank expansion tank is.

Leak is kind of big because I can fill up to MAX drive around for the day, come back home and the coolank low light will come on. Got underneath the car trying to see where all water/coolant was coming from and look a pic of where it was coming from.

Its a little star shaped thing with a cylinder type sticking out of it. the 3rd picture is the best one.

Car is currently at 145,000. I recently did the timing belt service (drive belt tensioner, timing belt, damper, tensioner, water pump) @ 136,925

Ive been putting in less of the G12 and more water since it seems to lose it too fast Im about to go broke. Dont want to drive it around with it losing so much coolant. Any ideas would be great. thank you

I have just finished on repairing the leak on the passenger side of my TT. The picture you are showing is not where the leak is coming from. I suspect it is from the junction pipe where three hoses come together. One is from the firewall side of the engine (it has a rubber hose on one end with a metal tube and banjo fitting on the other), another hose going to the bottom of the reservoir and the third hose going to the grille side of the engine. The plastic connector for my TT disintegrated in my hand when I tried to see where it was leaking, but I have over 185,000 miles on mine. I also did not get an overheating but the coolant level always came on. First, only sporadically, but as the leak got worse, the coolant level light came on more often. If you are using the pink coolant, you should see the dried out residue from above, close to where the serpentine belt is.

The cap in your picture is just to hold the heatshield on. Seems like you have coolant running down the back of the block and pooling in the heatshield and draining out there. Try looking down the back of the block to see if you can see the source of the leak.
