Default Help my tiny brain select new wheels...>

Ok so my brain is experiencing technical difficulties and I need your help... :-)

Here's what I know...
a) I live in an area that receives significant snowfall I track the car several times in the summer months. I have Blizzak WS-60's mounted on a set of fat fives to handle the winter.

b) I want to purchase a set of summer wheels and mount street-legal R Compound tires on them. I'm not going to get a dedicated set of track wheels/tires because I don't track the car enough to justify the cost of having 3 sets of wheels.

c) I'm willing to spend the extra $$ for forged wheels to get the benefits of light weight and strength; however, I'm open to any suggestions.

d) I want something that looks nice for the street and that performs reasonably well for the track.

Here's where I need your help...
1) I think I like the looks of 18's more than 17's. Would you go with 17 or 18 inch wheels?

2) What width? 7.5? 8.5? Staggered?

3) Which wheels do you favor (links to pics or manufacturer appreciated)?

Thanks in advance folks :-)

Default I would upgrade springs and shocks before wheels

I think you'll get more from a better suspension than a lighter set of wheels.

To answer your wheel question, I would get BBS RE's in 18 inch. Looks good and forged.

Default Honestly, I'd just swap the tires between the Fat Fives for several reasons...

1. Fat Fives are forged and relatively light weight
2. Going to 18's is going to require a brake upgrade...the laws of physics apply...bigger wheels require bigger/better brakes
3. Since you're going with R-compound, swapping tires is going to cost less than new wheels in the long run as they'll be trashed at the end of the season anyway. Just put the winter tires back on at end of season.

Default You can get cheap/functional wheels at edge racing.

If you track the car several times a year, it's worth it. And, your r-comps will quickly be below the legal tread limit.

Default Already did Stoptech brake upgrade and...>

I've been advised that taking tires on and off will ruin or degrade the tire bead. I was very much considering the annual swap until a few folks advised against it.

Default Going to 18s does not require a brake upgrade.

There are two 18" wheel options available from the factory (ALMS and the heavy-7s) and neither require bigger brakes. You'd have to add a serious amount of weight before it became an issue.
