Default Help! Trapped in Jacksonville - Final Word

I should have my car back in West Palm today from Jacksonville where it has been vacationing at Key Audi. For those didn't read my earlier posts, my 2001 TT225QC with only 17K miles died last weekend while on a trip to Jax.

Turns out the problem was a dead fuel pump. As explained to me by Audi service in Jax(they have been very nice. I hope they are also very good), it was an electrical problem within the pump such that every time I tried to start the car, thus starting the fuel pump, the fuel pump would short out. Bottom line: I am the proud owner of a brand new fuel pump.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I have owned cars in the past with upwards of 85k miles and never had a fuel pump problem.

Bad luck? or Bad Audi?

Thanks for everyones help and advice last weekend.

Richard

Default To answer, I need to ask a ? Is the fuel pump and fuel sending unit the same thing or different?

If the former, this is a common problem if the latter, it's a fluke.

I'll be talking to their parts manager in a few minutes, I'll ask my question.

In answer to your questions:

I have no idea if the fuel pump and fuel sending units are the same. Audi service specifically mentioned the fuel pump to me.

As for the gas, one of my original thoughts was that I had gotten a bad batch of gas on my way up to jax. I had filled the tank up about 75miles short of Jax, so I had plenty of gas.

Default Answer to my own question...

I assume that was your red 225 I saw being loaded onto a flatbed a few minutes ago in front of Key.

There are two seperate things, sort of. In a 225 TT there are two fuel sending units. The purpose of the FSU is to send the fuel level reading to the instrument cluster. Since the Haldex system forces there to be a division in the fuel tank in the quattro TT's then two FSU's are required.

One of these FSU's has the fuel pump attached to it. This is a single part, a combo FSU / fuel pump. The other is just an FSU.

Beautiful car, Rodman! Good luck.

Ivan
