but I will still argue that the engineers have less to do with the parts that are produced than you think. Yes, they set the specs/parameters of the item that needs to be done. But it is the bean counters and mgmt have close relationships with a number of vendors that they do ALOT of business with. They absolutely will settle for parts that would not necessarily pass the test just because they have close relationships. This is how business works unfortunately.
I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree because I do not subscribe to your theories about the why the plastic is or is not there.

I am not certain which side of the argument I am on anymore. lol
You have utterly confused me.
I know the engineers are not 100% responsible for the car, but they are the ones that are most easily pointed a finger at since it is a design problem that more often than not is the problem.
Ok the Bosch DV is way beyond what we are talking about, but is a good case in point. We both know that the VW/Audi engineer(s) needed a DV of some type for the turbo engines. They chose a Bosch DV for the bean counter reason. It is a HGE contract that VW/Audi has with the Robert Bosch company and any part they can use from that catalog will help in the long run to making the car more profitable. Where I blame the engineer is now knowing that they are up to the 15th version of the Bosch DV that they are not either trying to design the DV themselves or better yet . . . looking through the Bosch catalog once again and finding a NEW DV! By NEW I mean different. That is the fault of the engineers, not the bean counters. But the bean counters put the engineers into this position, but they have the means to get themselves out of it.
