Default Not sure myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has to do with emissions, maybe?

I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about these things, but maybe the car keeps the engine running higher right after startup for emissions reasons. You know how when you start a gas weed trimmer (everyone calls them "weed whackers" around here) and it's throwing out all this crap, but if you speed it up it seems to get cleaner?

If the car is doing this, I'm sure it has actually to do with 02, fuel, etc. levels that cause it to adjust the idle.

Then again, it could just be so the car doesn't stall. The engine might just need some time to get everything blown out and adjusted.
