Default Higher TT prices? Speculation at The Hill ...

that would impose higher import tariffs on goods made from France, Germany and Belgium.

Default But is the TT considered Made in Germany?

Couldn't Audi argue that the car is manufactured in Gyor, Hungary and only the final assembly is done in Germany? This is how the US Car companies figure where a car is produced. It is based on the highest percentage of the build being done in one place. I don't know how it is figured though.

I doubt this will ever occur.

Total breach of WTO charter. Would open US up to retaliatory tariffs.

Default You never know. If Turkey gets attacked ...

CNN ...

France, Germany and Belgium have blocked U.S. proposals for NATO to plan for the deployment of early warning planes, missile defenses and anti biochemical units to Turkey, the only alliance member which borders Iraq.

Default Nato & the UN don't seem to care about enforcement much these days . . .

so why not breach the WTO charter?

Sure, we're all not getting along at NATO or the UN. The WTO is totally different, though...

Default Different interests. The UN & NATO are (ostensibly) geopolitical defense and decision making

...bodies, while the WTO is purely to facilitate fair trade (questionable), foster trade liberalizaton and promote globalization. There are a lot of dollars at stake if we impose illegal (under the WTO) tariffs and those nations retaliate.

Default I gotcha. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy when it comes to World issues and

international bodies of governance.

The whole World would denounce the US if we did something here b/c it involves financial chess playing . . . yet the same financial interests factor in the NATO and UN decisions that Germany, France, and Belgium play with aplomb.

Until or unless a 9/11ish or similar catastrophic event occurs in Europe, we're going this alone. Allowing a$$holes to reign free ended in NYC, Washington DC, and a field in Pennsylvania.

"How quickly they forget" now describes 9/11/01 as well as 6/6/44.

'Just my opinion.

Sorry for the tirade.

Default I figured you did.

I agree - hipocracy is abound, and everyone's trading on contingencies that will ultimately leave them least exposed to risk. No one is truly noble here, and everyone's motives include economic biases...but it would be helpful if France and Germany would ****ing remember who saved their asses in the past. And that this problem will not go away, will not be solved with more diplomacy, and will reach their front yards. With that said, I do understand their reasoning - they have some valid reasons for dissent.

Hey, did you catch my post yesterday about France's military history? I though you might get a kick out of it after last week's thread-'o-flames about France.
