Im reading more and this stuff is complex.
but initial impressions can be wrong..for example air pressure over the hood may be higher or lower at certain points. someone had pointed out to me the reverse scoops where the hood meets the windshield worked on camaros. But I read that this worked for normally aspirated cars and wouldnt be so good for injection. also the pressure effect at this point changed at certain speeds.
The thing is adding a scoop changes the pressure...of course at the point where the air meets the scoop...
Now IM NOT sayying this to sound like I know anything. I don't. Just that this is one of those areas where counterintuition comes in to play.

you may actually get more suck from a scoop than ram...
based upon speed of the air and relative high/low pressure areas.
I agree, absent a wind tunnel it is a quessing game.

not a guessing game, just not easy Steve's suggestion...
in the thread below was a good one, tape bits of yarn on the hood and drive, videotaping the flow at different speeds, but an autospeed article had instructions on building an instrument to measure pressure at various points..
Im sure you could temprarily jerry rig a scoop with an outlet out the back to measure the effect without cutting holes in the hood.. move the thing around and test different spots.....
what Im thinking is beyond the effectivenss is that routing the hose under the hood is the big problem..ensuring there is a smooth path.
and the big one of course is esthetic....we want to make our little sweethearts look better not worse. my thought is the scoop would work on the darker colored cars where people have tinted the windows, put black wheels (Flick wasps) and mesh in the grills...a whole dark menage kind of deal...
the shape of te scoop is a whole other problem
