Generally a bad AC/Heat system smell is associated with mold/mildrew in the cooling coils/condensate pan of the air system (INSIDE the car where 'squirrel cage' fan is housed)..very common in humid climates where water can sit in the pan for periods of time or after a summer's a/c use. There are several products available from auto parts suppliers and even VW/Audi that you either spray into the outside fresh intake (with fan on high and recirculate button off)or in some cases drill small hole into casing of inside pan and inject/spray directly onto coils. Ordorizers DO NOT help...need to kill mold to rid smell.
