Default How do I replace my battery?

I'm a little handy but not much. I'm trying to replace the battery in my 2001 TT Roadster.

I have a new battery ready to go and I have the plastic cover off the battery in the car. There are some wires and stuff on top of the battery (under the plastic cover) which can be hinged out of the way. Finally, I can get the cables off the old battery.

But the old battery seems like it is being held down in the tray by something. I'm not that strong but I really don't think that it is just too heavy, it seems like its being held down.

What am I missing? I need to get to work Monday!

Default Look just in front of the battery box, all the way at the bottom you'll see a screw..

It holds a small metal plate that secures the battery. Generally easy to get off with a ratchet and extension. I think it's a 13mm, but not positive. Once that screw and bracket is out you can pull the battery out.

Default just don't mix up the cable connection when installing new battery....>>>

many vehicles, the battery cables are colored...red for Positive and black for Negative. On the TT, they are both black, atleast mine are. So when you pull the old battery out, look at the markings on the battery + or - and remember which cable is which when installing the new battery.

Nice Smile BTW :-)

I should have known that Jeff would come to my rescue -- I love that guy.

Thanks for the advice, MarTT.

Guess which socket is the only one missing from my set? I'm off to Home Depot.

Great, make sure you have a long extension as well, it's a must.

Default Two short extensions together are good, bolts off but battery still stuck

Back from Home Depot. Put two shorter extensions together and both bolts are now off.

Battery till seems a bit stuck, though, but more wobble.

I'll go try some more, but any tips at this stage?

Default

It's wedged in at the back, pull it forward to release it from the back catch. YGM
