I know this is a pita question, but the level of difficulty in doing this will help my decision in if i wanna get one of these. If I do get one I don't plan on it being plugged into the cigarette ligher all the time...cause that would just look plain stupid

I'll give you a short answer as I've done this myself and have very little electrical experience (even less than Joel lol!).
The lower dash on the Driver's side needs to be removed (to or three 25Torx Screws). From there it is a matter of tapping into a wire on the back of the fuse box... not difficult at all to do. If you go to Jeff Bipes website, he can provide the fuse # to tap. After that you just need to run the wire from the fuse panel up the A piller and then tuck it into the headliner until you get to the position you want. I placed mine about 1 inch to the right of the rear-view mirror.
All in all, it's about a 2 hour job (for me at least) and very straight-forward.
BTW, I wouldn't let this be a reason for not getting a Radar Detector. If you want/need one, either you or someone else can put it in for you and you are then somewhat protected.
If you are in LA, I know that a few TT'r's including myself would be more than happy to help.
Here is a pic of my install.

The coiled cord has a disturbing tndency to work its way out of the ciggy socket. Cruising along all suddenly unprotected-like is quite a sphincter closer.

Someone posted a while ago about a better way than tapping a wire. Above the clutch pedal is a block with 4 terminals. I think it's the left most that is switched. I crimped a larger spade onto the wire and hooked it to that. For the ground, there is a block with several brown wires.

I can easily turn the whole thing on and off with the switch. Works for me!
