Default How does everyone here like their 225 HP Roadsters?

I'm considering selling my CLK430 Cabriolet and buying something more sporting: either a 2001 Audi TT Roadster (225 hp Quattro version) or a new 2001 Porsche Boxster S. I can get a Silver/Black 225 TT Roadster in one month (for a $2000 discount) or can special order a Speed Yellow Boxster S (for a $1500 discount). Basically, the TT will cost $14,000 less.

Finally, my questions:

1) How does everyone here like their TT's? Any problems so far?

2) I test drove a Boxster S last week and a 225 TT Coupe today. The Boxster S certainly handles better and accelerates better than the TT, but I'm wondering if it's really worth $14,000 (plus extra taxes) more? Any thoughts...

Default So far....So good....I really love this car.....

1) No serious problems.

2) I looked at a Boxster and the TT together, at the same dealer, though I didn't drive the Boxster. For now I prefer the lines of the TT over the Boxster...especially since I have to park on the St....Couldn't bring myself to park a $70K car on the street....

Default Answers...(LOOng)

First off let me say that I have a coupe, but have a friend who has a silver 225 Roadster which I have been in many times.

Answers:
1.) Love the car, great styling, you will never get tired of looking at this car (I think the Boxter's interior is a bit bland).

2.) Problems, none that are major. There is one problem with the Diverter valve that all TTs seems to have a problem with. Most people replace theirs with an aftermarket piece ($100-150). But that is about it.

3.) Perfomance. Have not driven the Boxter S, so cannot give you camparison between the two. Having said that, I do love the way my car handles, can't imagine needing much better handling characteristics than that. But it could us a little more get-up and go. The TT is no pig but an aftermarket chip (around $1,500) will add like 25 hp and make it a hell of alot faster!

So, being biased I say save $14,000 get a TT, spend the $1,500 on a chip(if you really need it) and spend the rest on a great home theater (if you don't already have one). You will stand out in a crowd, and be the onlyh one (or two) people on the block with this car.

Default Only Porsche I would buy is one of the *9* series 911,993 etc

The Boxter, while no doubt a better performing car than the TT, is not worth the extra money to me (although I do not seem to be in the same tax bracket as you ;o) ) although you do mention the fact that the money IS a concern...

P.S. The TT has a better smile per mile ratio guaranteed

Default Concur

This is the most fun I've ever had driving!! I love my roadster.

The only problems have been minor. Most problems people have reported on the forum have been minor annoyances.

If you are in North Carolina just don't get amulet. ;-) I want to remain unique. ;-)

Default Maybe too TT to answer objectively, but I've driven both and the TT gets my vote as more

of a satisfying all-around car. Depends on what you like. Fit and finish of the TT interior wins hands down.... loved the Boxster S however....that's a tough call if the 14K is not an issue. Oh, will it be your only vehicle? If so, the TT will also win in the winter driving category.

Default DennyTT, it will not be my only vehicle...(more)

My everyday car right now is a 2000 model Audi A6 4.2, my wife drives a '99 3 series BMW, and my "toys" include the aforementioned CLK430 Cabriolet along with a '99 BMW Z3 Coupe and a '66 427/425 HP Convertible.

The $14,000 extra on the Boxster S won't kill me, but it would pay my son's private school tuition this coming year...
