This car is a treat for me and its not even a newer model(2000). I don't want to spend unnecessarily to replace it or to do major repairs on it because I've beat the crap out of it. Living in Ontario's snow belt makes taking good care of it a hard thing to do. i drive 80k everyday (partially in the country). Lots of mileage in wet season and salt! Thus, my reason for storing it. If anyone can't bare the idea of it being stored they can always buy me a newer one and I can use this one as a beater, I really like blue!

- If the oil hasn't been changed recently, change it.
- Go fill up the gas tank.
- Give the car a cleaning with one of those touch-up spray cleaners. This gets the dust off without leaving the car wet.
- Park the car on top of some solid-foam sheets to get it off the cement. Put it in 1st gear, but don't engage the parking brake.
- Over-inflate the tires to 45psi or so.
- Attach a "battery tender" to the battery, or disconnect the negative cable.
- cover it up.
- wait patiently until spring comes, and get reminded how great the car is after driving the beater for 6 months.
I'm in the don't start it all winter camp. Others like to start it up every once in a while, sometimes weekly. The choice is up to you.

It will be hard not to drive it for 4-5 months. I know little about cars and my husband doesn't take much interest in them so I appreciate your help. I bought this car in the spring with low mileage and a sweet price tag($23,5Cdn. 75k). I'm hoping to spend some cash and give her a bit of 'umph' come spring. Hopefully, I can get help on that from someone like you as opposed to being heckled.

Put Sta-Bil in your tank, fill the tank up and drive around so the Sta-Bil goes through the fuel system. Top off the tank so no condensation forms in side the tank.
Wash and wax it as well as clean the inside. Don't forget to treat your leather seats. Buy a car cover and (duh) keep it covered.
Fill your tires up 45+ PSI. Park it over pieces of carpet (go to home depot and ask for 4 samples). You can either hook a battery tender to it or disconnect the battery. If it gets cold, just remove the battery entirely and keep it in a semi-warm place.
Starting it up is all up to you but it does nothing really. Hope this helps.

I bought my 2001 Roadster brand new, and it currently has 12k miles on it. Like you, I'm happier with the TT in the garage all winter, while I'm driving through the salt and dodging potholes in my winter car.

I was also advised that putting the car up on 4 jacks is another way to preserve the tire condition.
The weather up here can reach mid -20C in January, so I will definately be taking my battery out. It'll be a sad day when I put her away
