First thing, the difference between Fwd and quattro(180/225). Assuming all badges are removed from the cars and you don't see a quattro badge and the car has aftermarket wheels . . . The rear shocks of a 180 Fwd car stand straight up and down, a quattro shock in the rear leans towards the rear of the car.
Another thing you can do is poke your head against the window and look for the ASR button on the dash. It should be the 2nd button from the right. If the car has ESP this button will say ESP and you can't use this as a determining factor.
Now for the 180 vs 225 . . . no way to tell unless you pop the hood open unless:
The car has a dual exhaust, 5 spoke 17" wheels. Remember both of these items can be done to a 180 as well.
The 225 has vented rear rotors, both of the 180's have solid rear rotors. The Fwd has 9.1" and the quattro has 9.4".
If these items were all changed out to aftermarket parts, you can look into the drivers side lower grill for the intercooler which only the 225TT has. If this is missing because the car has a front mounted intercooler . . . then you need to pop the hood . . .
Once the hood is opened then just look as the intake manifold at the front of the engine. The 180 has its opening at the passenger side and the 225 has its at the drivers side.
The 225 also has a shiny pipe at the top of the engine running front to rear towards the turbo from the intercoolers.
There are many differences within the engine compartment, but these are easily spotted.
Hope that helps
