Undo the subframe bolts ( make sure that you have new bolts)

Default Do NOT disconnect the subframe bolts for spring replacement!

All you need to do is remove the 3 nuts at the hub end of the control arm. Then you can drop the control arm. Don't disconnect the subframe bolts, it will make the install an absolute pain in the ***.

You should disconnect the sway bar links from both sides so you don't fight the sway bar.

Then you will be able to more easily remove each front strut assembly.

I have not given you every last detail on how to do the remove/reinstall as you didn't ask for that.

Default When I say subframe, I do not mean take it out, just drop it a few inches....

Take the bolts on top(located in the engine bay) and then the thing will drop. Just remember to have spring compressors and a hammer to knock the $hit out of the strut(if your replacing the strut too). There is a couple of website that has this info. Use the search

Default Make sure to scribe the location of the bolts before removing them ...

the holes are elongated and need to be reassembled exactly to maintain alignment.

I've done it both ways and removing the 3 bolts is slightly easier than lowering the subframe 4 big bolts.

Lowering the subframe is used to dial-in the alignment by Audi techs though so either way you choose is OK. The 4 subframe bolts are "stretched' when installed meaning they are torqued to 89lbs + 3/4 turn (the stretch) so it is recommended that they are replaced each time they are removed (the ain't cheap either!)

So to do the install it would end up being cheaper and easier to just unbolt those three bolts????
