Default How would I go about replacing the radio cover?

I have no idea how but the thieves somehow broke the left side of the radio cover mechanism.

So, YAAAY, I get to replace the whole damn thing.

I ****ING HATE THIEVES.

I wish they could have just gotten away with the CD player. I could have been fine with my stock one.

Now I'm stuck fixing this stupid little ****.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea how to get into where that mechanism is, but I have a feeling its not going to be an easy task.

Default Do mean the flap? Bentley has detailed pics, in a Technical Bulletin...>>

Behind the flap, there are 2 plastic gear/spring contraptions which raise and lower the aluminum radio cover. They're pretty flimsy, so I'm not surprised the goons broke them. You may be able to simply replace those plastic bits if the aluminum flap is Ok.

Audi has a Technical bulleting (91-05-10) which details repairs to these plastic gears that operate the flap. I've taken mine off once because it wouldn't stay down and I discovered one of the gear mechanisms on mine was broken--they're pretty flimsy contraptions with plastic arms, metal springs and such. Audi has a repair kit, part 8N0 098 459, for these things. I was able to finagle mine back into working order and didn't need (yet) to get the replacement kit, and all it took was a few simple hand tools, the radio removal things (I have a DIY version... see Jeff's post in the FAQ) and lots of patience. Maybe a little whiskey to settle the nerves.
